When your computer needs to run programs that are bigger than your available physical memory, most modern operating systems use a technique called swapping, in which chunks of memory are temporarily stored on the hard disk while other data is moved into physical memory space. Latest update for openSUSE breaks package manager

Many people have had YaST and the package manager broken after installing a dodgy update. The offending update has since been removed from the update repos. There is a fix in the link above.

I attempted an install on my main rig (several times, using several methods). The install always freezes right after ‘keyboard selection’. I’ve neither the time nor desire to do this on one of my other machines. Bye, bye Fedora, and, bite me Werewolf…

Upgrading to Ubuntu 7.10 now, before the rush
I usually don’t upgrade an OS but I saw this on Digg and figured I would give it a shot, just for the heck of it.
When Ubuntu’s Gutsy Gibbon (7.10) is released on Thrusday there will be a mad rush to download updates and ISOs from Ubuntu’s servers. This article will explain various ways to upgrade to the latest and greatest by avoiding to download rush.
