So I saw the following story at Neowin and I found it both amusing and informative.
Windows 8.1 preview removes Windows Experience Index
I’m just gonna post my thoughts:
1 – They didn’t remove it. It’s still there but doesn’t show in System Properties anymore. See screenshot below.
2 – A Neowin forum member stumbled upon this over a week before the news source for the article. OOPS! 😳
Indeed a quick Google search shows lots of folks discussing this over the last 10 days or so.
3 – Microsoft is still referencing Winsat(the tool that calculates WEI):
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/hh825488.aspx
and
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/jj130829.aspx
4 – The first link above still references the Performance Information and Tools in Control Panel which has gone missing.
5- I’ve always thought WEI was a joke. If they have decided to leave it out of 8.1 I say good riddance.
6 – If you want to run WinSAT:
Press the Windows + R keys and type winsat formal .
Now check the folder C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore for the scores.
