I’ve been using Audacity for many years. From creating audio, to mixing, to editing it has been an essential tool for me.
I’d like to show you how this tool can be of use to the average user. I’m going to give a very quick example of using Audacity to trim music.
I’ve got a song on CD that is a live recording and the crowd noise on the frontend is long and annoying. The crowd noise on the backend isn’t as long but it is equally annoying.
The song is Jackson Browne – Running on Empty. I used dBpoweramp to rip it as a wave file.
You can see the crowd noise at both ends.
Zoom to that area and play it to find where you want the song to start/end, then cut it.
I wanted to insert 1 second of silence at the beginning so it isn’t so jarring when you push play.
Finally you EXPORT the file to whatever format you desire. A use FLAC.
47 seconds cut.
