I’m still musing about my next smart phone (past comments here and here). The Pixel 6 seems to have a number of issues including slow charging and and slow fingerprint reader. Perhaps if they get this stuff sorted out?
I’m hesitant on Samsung devices because of all the bloatware installed on them.
I’m not interested in Apple devices.

You should consider an older Apple device like the IPhone 11. No bloatware, good camera, no malware, still fast.

After my old Samsung S7 started to lose its battery life… I switched to a new unlocked Motorola One 5G Ace where my main complaint is getting used to its “new to me but mostly good Motorola stuff” that I’m still struggling to learn… So there’s that and then the main On/Off button that is is almost too resistant to be turned on and off that way (with too many other ways to turn itself on when I wish it wouldn’t do that). But other than that I believe it is a lot of phone for the money that is compatible with all 3 major U.S. carriers (plus Google Fi that I keep wondering if I should switch to it)?
Plus, I am a definite fan of DuckDuckGo Thank You

I just received delivery on a Pixel 6 Pro yesterday…will put in service today.
(Love my older Pixel 2XL… after 3+ years the battery is dying.)
I’ll let you know how the 6 Pro works for me…

The fingerprint reader is apparently faster after a recent update

I’ve tried a lot of android devices lately, not because I’m really looking to replace my phone or that a need a new one, but more because I like android and have missed using it since I have had an iPhone. Having said that, I tried the Pixel 5a 5G, Samsung Galaxy S21, Moto G Stylus (2020), Moto G Stylus 5G, Moto G Stylus (2021), and the Pixel 6. As it turns out, I prefer iOS, probably because I’ve been using it for so long and it seems natural to me now. All of those phones felt lackluster to me in comparison to my iPhone 11. Even the Pixel 6 didn’t seem as responsive. The Galaxy and Pixel phones do have really nice scrolling with the higher refresh rate, but it wasn’t enough difference to me for what I do on my phone to justify the cost.
If you like a large screen phone, out of the ones I’ve tried recently, I would definitely go the with Moto G Stylus (2021) if you are looking for the best bang for your buck. I like the extra Moto software (like shake the phone twice to turn the flashlight on and off) which doesn’t intrude on the Android experience at all. There is no bloatware. The camera is okay, but you’re not going to win any contests with it. Basically, the Stylus G (2021) could do everything I needed to do, which is listening to music, tracking my runs, reading books, paying bills, ordering food, and some very light gaming (think word puzzles).
As suggested above, if you can get yourself into an Apple device, they really are quality phones and you can go back a couple generations and get a phone that will not only compete with, but beat today’s devices in a lot of instances. Of course, if you need 5g, you won’t find that on iPhone 11, but my experience with it is that it is not any better than 4g LTE.

Moto G Stylus = no wireless charging.

Eh Eric I agree with Jean-Pierre here but know you have a thing with Apple which is OK. I personally have a thing with Google and the name sends shivers up
the spine, so would never get a ‘Google’ Pixel. BUT have owned Motorolas and Samsungs(Google Android)of course and would recommend one of those. I was
able to eliminate almost all the bloatware. You being the Tweakmaster and optimizer plus ‘rooting’ your old android(s) would have NO problem. Also the 5G hype
does nothing for me. I’d save big bucks and get 4G(LTE) on a slightly older phone which will be around a long time, is proven, reliable and currently is as good/better than 5g.
Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound) says
Yeah, don’t care about 5G really.

Short review is I am happy with it and will keep it. New phone was necessary due to aging battery is 3 year old Pixel 2XL model. That was and is an excellent phone and battery only started to go in past few months. For me the choices were between the Pixels or OnePlus phones. Have had iPhones in past and while they are excellent hardware, I don’t like the OS nor the corporation…
The Pixel 6 Pro is a physically BIG phone. It is approximately the same width as my old Pixel 2XL and + ¼ inch larger vertically. If you don’t have big hands or like the format you may not be happy. I have not held the regular (smaller) 6 model yet. The Pro is *almost* too big, but I need the screen real estate for my vision.
This phone is one that NEEDS a case. It is super slippery – all-glass back and the camera lens bump-out is VERY pronounced. I added a Caseology Vault – it looks and feels good and tempers/protects the bump out nicely.
Overall performance is quick, camera is excellent so far. The screen is excellent. Call quality is very good, no complaints. Bluetooth connects to vehicle without any issue. Android Auto works perfectly as well. Haven’t tested extensively with audio apps just yet.
Read reviews about slow screen fingerprint reader although I have not experienced that. (Read there was a software update on this issue already). That said I miss the dedicated hardware reader on the old Pixel…when you are not at the *right* angle (like when I am half-asleep), it doesn’t read the fingerprint on the first pass. When you are holding device “correctly” it jumps into action just fine. Older device was more forgiving.
Battery charging is IMO quick on an 18W Anker PD USB-C charger. There is no charger OOTB (par for course I understand these days) Have not tested the wireless charging yet. Only had to charge a couple of times over the past week and it never went below ~68%. Got back to 100% in around 45 minutes or maybe less.
This has been a slow holiday week…so usage ‘burn in’ has been light. I use my cell as my main phone (personal and business), even in the office all day long, so it will see significantly more use over the next few days.

Great review! Thank you!
