I’ve had several emails from folks inquiring about my thoughts on Windows 11. I don’t think I’ve been ambiguous about it but here is an actual short email conversation with a friend:
Warning…naughty words ahead. If you’re a sensitive sort then don’t click on…
Friend: Windows 11, I cannot run it because my hardware is too old. Secure Boot and no TPM.
I got til 2025 to rebuild my old rig…after prices of mobo go down!
Me: F*$# Windows 11 (edited)
Friend: My thoughts exactly. You not gonna even load it into one of your machines?
Me: Haven’t decided

When “Cutting the Cable” implies new meaning. ‘Trashing your Windows system drive and replacing it with a non-Microsoft O/S.’

I like the look of Win 11 but dread upgrading my rigs and 3-4 family rigs. I also don’t like having to create a MSFT account, although I’m on Pro so I guess there may be an option to still login with a local account (according to google, time will tell). My family all has Home, so now I’ve got to set up MSFT accounts and make them write yet another login/pw on the yellow pad in their desk drawer. Then Teamview when they mess crap up and can’t login. Sigh.

Like many others, I tried Windows 11 beta and was not impressed.
Windows 7 was great and then came the pos Windows 8. Windows 10 is not perfect, but is pretty decent. Windows 11 reminds me more and more of Windows 8, in that it is half baked, very buggy, and is not ready for prime time. There are so many design changes that just don’t make sense, just like Windows 8.
I have three systems, with one not on the approved list (cpu). That one has an amd 3300x cpu, amd 570 motherboard with TMP 2.0, 32gb ram, an samsung 980 pro ssd, and a decent video card. It’s a pretty fast system. That one for sure is going Linux. As for my other two systems, I haven’t decided yet, but I just can’t see going through the hassle that it will be to “upgrade” to Windows 11. and dealing with all of the crap that it take before Windows 11 is a half way decent version.
(I’m an old guy and go back to the days of a trash 80).

I think if you just disconnect the network cable you won’t have to use a MSFT account. I have done this many times with Win10 when it asks you to do it.

Yes
Dan says
with out ms account yes tried it on Windows 11 runs real sluggish and long time to restart and reboot that is weird
Beta says
You don’t need a Microsoft account.
“Let’s connect you to a network”
Disconnect the Ethernet cable > “I don’t have internet” option > click it
Don’t see that option? > Alt + F4
“Who’s going to use this device?”
