What Is Hi-Fi Audio, and Should You Pay More for It?
“Can I Hear the Difference in Quality?…Do I Need Special Equipment?…Where Can I Stream It?…How Much Does It Cost?”
Allen says
Hi Eric, What is your take on Hi-Fi music? Have you ever bought something like that before?
Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound) says
It depends on how you define “hi-fi audio”. I record/rip my stuff as FLAC at 16-bit/44.1 kHz. Sometimes I can tell the difference between that and satellite radio or Amazon downloads, and sometimes I can’t. Most of the music I listen to is older and some of it was originally recorded horribly. There is only so much you can do when the source quality sucks.
Allen says
I share roughly the same sentiment as you do. I have a few Hi-Fi FLAC, but I only have one that I could tell the difference on. I agree with source quality, Even in some new music I have, its still sounds very low quality. Poor mastering of music really sucks.
