Today Americans go to the polls.
This being a non-Presidential election year a lot of folks will skip this election. Oh, they will still piss and moan about how screwed up this or that is but they won’t man-up and do a simple thing like vote.
Many, many, many good men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice so that you can make your voice heard. America broke it’s colonial chains for the right to vote. Even then the right to vote was denied to poor whites, women, and people of color. It has taken decades of protests, numerous Supreme Court cases, and three constitutional amendments to secure those rights.
Yes, I know that a vast majority of the people on your ballot are, shall we say, uh… trying not to swear here…screw it, most of them are twatwaffles. Don’t want to vote for them? Fine. Do a write-in vote. In the past I have voted for Marvin the Martian, Flower Whiskers, Foghorn Leghorn, myself, and others I cannot remember. I know the members of the 2 major parties don’t like this. They will lie and say you are wasting your vote. I disagree. You have taken the time to go out and vote and then write in a candidate not on the ballot, real or not. I consider this a protest vote. A vote of disapproval. A giant middle finger to the major parties for presenting you with horrible options.
It is your right to vote and you must. You owe it to those who died securing that right. Your owe it to the future. You owe it to yourself, your family, your neighbors, and your country.
