OFF TOPIC
This post is for my fellow Veterans. If you have a vet as a family member or friend consider passing this post on to them.
In the 15 years this site has been up, I don’t ever remember bringing up being a vet on this site. It really isn’t germane to the “computer stuff…” I cover here, so please pardon me…
This year Veterans Days is Saturday, November 11. First I would like to thank my fellow U.S Military Veterans for their service. Regardless of when or where you served, each and every one of you are my brothers and sisters. Second, as a way of a “Thank You” lots of businesses have deals for vets. Some require a ID of some kind, retired military card, DD214. I’m told the VA has a Veteran Health Identification Card. My state of Virginia has a Veterans ID card (just take a DD214 into the DMV).
Some deals I use are:
ID.ME – They have links to active military and veteran discounts as well as first responders and others. They are verified by the Depart of Veterans Affairs.
Lowes – 10% of for active military and veterans. Needs to be tied into your My Lowes card.
Microsoft 365 – 30% off.
There are lots of places that have deals for Veterans Day (and/or sometime during the week of):
MilitaryBenefits.com – 2017 Veterans Day Free Meals, Discounts, Sales and Deals
Some interesting facts:
– There are over 18,000,000 veterans in the U.S. That number is declining.
– While the actual numbers of any homeless group are hard to pin down there were about 38,000 homeless vets in 2016. That number is declining.

Eric: We learn something new about you! Spent 25yrs as a USAF medic. I am both a veteran and retired, and I salute you and all my fellow military members……MUCH MORE than just once a year.
FYI: Home Depot gives Active Duty and Retired a 10% discount all the time, whereas veterans only get that discount on Veterans Day………so my fellow vets…….11 Nov would be the day to get your home project supplies from Home Depot.
GOD BLESS OUR MILITARY!!!

About Lowe’s military/veteran 10% discount. My wife is the person who got Lowe’s to make this discount an everyday deal, from just on veterans day, 7 years ago while a credit manager at a Lowe’s store. You have to ask for it at check out and show something to verify you veteran status. You don’t need a Lowe’s account to use this. I don’t have a Lowe’s account and I just show my retired military ID to get it. This discount is applied before sales tax which makes it more valuable.
