[H]ardLY Overclockable
[H]ardOCP has only managed to get 1 in 4 new Kaby Lake 7700K’s up to 5GHz.
A sad state of affairs for the high-end overclocking crowd.
Since GWX Didn’t Work Well Enough
Microsoft wants to remind you that Windows 7 support ends in three years. Better install Win10 before then.
“Windows 7 comes slowly into the years. Today, it does not meet the requirements of modern technology, nor the high security requirements of IT departments.”
Maybe so. But it works just fine for me and comes without all the hassles of Windows 10. We will discuss it again in 3 years. Maybe.

Game Mode
Teased again. Just a simple mention with no details.
Speaking of which. Not a single person has recommended a tweak for the game only tweak guide. 🙁

A couple of things Eric. 1) I am not a hard core overclocker but I do like a fast processor. I generally try and hit ~ 4.6 on my 3770K and my latest (2 years or more now) 4790K. Having said that I see no reason to go to Broadwell, Skylake, nor Kaby Lake. I read Intel ended the Tick Tock era.
2) I have been pondering a tweak peeps use when benching cpus but not sure how it wouls help in gaming. I may shoot it over to you for review. Also I never OC my video card, nor do any thing special while gaming. It’s more about processing power and a decent graphics card or I prefer Xfire or SLI if running Nvida.

on game mode tweeks, I find there not much you can do, you can reduce background not used app an process but most already do clean up autoruns (startups, services not needed ) etc.
One single thing that does help is power plan, use HP and make sure core parking disabled.
Turn off notifications I noticed can help, it seems these use CPU%, like the “get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use windows10”
The best is smoother play, not a increase in fps, my 2 cts 🙂

The game-only tweaks i would add:
– Mouse setting in Windows : 6/11 + “enhance mouse precision OFF” to disable mouse acceleration and having a 1-to-1 mouse response ( more explanations here : http://donewmouseaccel.blogspot.fr/2010/03/markc-windows-7-mouse-acceleration-fix.html )
– maybe talk a little about Input lag (excellent article from Anandtech here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2803/7 ). Add maybe the “Max pre-rendered frames set to 1” for NVIDIA cards… not a 100% Windows tweak and dependant on hardware, but still Something to do outside of the game.
Rest of your guide is nice, go to the point as always. Great work.

Cannot comment there, so will write just here. Your Installing Windows 7 guide misses info about the Convenience Rollup – a short info about streamlining Servicing Stack and the Rollup into W7 SP1 installation disk would be a nice addition.

Windows 7 market share: 48% and falling.
Conclusion: Not worth it.
radosuaf says
Yes, 48% is pretty lame compared to W10’s 24% and W8.1’s 7%. Especially when it’s falling at an alarming ~1% rate over last quarter and that’s counting Christmas purchases (with W10 preinstalled usually) in.
