No, I haven’t gone anywhere. There has just been so little computer news I find interesting that I haven’t bothered to even sign in.
It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
As every freakin’ tech site has constantly reminded you of for the last month, tomorrow is the last day for the free update to Win10.
Or not.
Some folks opine that Microsoft could extended the freebie indefinitely.
Win10 AnniUpdate
See that stupid name I just gave it? Yeah, that’s how bored I am.
The AnniUpdate will be released Aug 2nd.
Several tech sites claim Cortana will be more difficult to configure or turn off after the AnniUpdate. Although many sites claim otherwise, turning it off via regedit as you did before works just fine. I documented it in the Win10 Tweak Guide and showed you My Windows 10 Tweaks before that. The key is here:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search]
“AllowCortana”=dword:00000000
Speaking Of The Win10 Tweak Guide
I’m guessing an update will fall around Labor Day weekend.

One of the better ways I’ve ever spent $5.
Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound) says
Thanks Rob. You made my day!
James says
I totally agree Rob. I don’t know how I would have managed without it.
Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound) says
Thank you James!

I am STILL of the opinion that, in general, Windows 10 is the worst Operating System I have ever used.
RIDDLED with bugs and very seriopus ones too which continually cause MAJOR problems.
The OS tries to be too clever by far and should be seriously slimmed down.
The fact that it is nor possible (I know 🙂 to prevent the program updating is nothing short of scandelous. Together with the fact that it overides any settings you have altrered from the defalut. I say this is ILLEGAL. These practices, inter alia, breach my right to privacy and I am seriously considering going to the High Court in London to take appropriate action against BOTH Microsoft and Google.

Do you recommend a clean install of the major updates such as the AnniUpdate? I know you recommend a clean install of new operating systems and when I installed the November update for Windows 10, the processed looked almost exactly the same as upgrading from 7 or 8 to 10.
Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound) says
One of the few things about Win10 I dig is, for me, every upgrade has been flawless.

Hi Eric, when you update the Tweak Guide can you give your latest thoughts on True Image please? I saw a while back that you were asking for feedback on alternative backup tools, is TI still your tool of choice?
I recently upgraded from Win7 to Win10 (having bought your guide) and had been using TI 2014 to create images of system and data disks using the boot cd as per your recommendations. I don’t think TI 2014 works with Win10 and have not upgraded to TI 2016 yet.
Though I backed up with the boot disk, I also had TI installed so I could occasionally look through old backups, I found that TI was always trying to call home and disabling the Start processes caused frequent error messages.
