Now You’re Upset? Really???
The latest chapter in the GWX saga has even Microsoft Fanbois upset. Basically clicking the “X” the in GWX pop-up window results in Win10 being installed. In the last 24 hours I’ve seen the terms used to describe this maneuver:
-Nagware
-Malware
-Unacceptable
-Indefensible
-Shenanigans
-Final Straw
-Nasty
-Dirty Trick
Criminy! Where the hell have you been?
Geeks from around the web have been screaming from the rooftops about GWX since this BS started. I’m pretty sure we’ve used all those words above, and, we’ve been doing it for months now.

Download or update from within the program.

Did I mention I gave up and installed Win 10 on my last Win 7 system a while back? I succumbed to the pressure. 😉 Can’t say I am dis-pleased.

MS tried the sneak update on my last night (28th). Was minding my own business at the keyboard when the 15-minutes-to-upgrade countdown screen appeared. Managed to kill the upgrade AFTER selection “Reschedule”.
There are several reasons I don’t dare upgrade to Win10, most having to do with my lack of confidence in MS’s technical abilities, and the fact that I support legacy software, and that it was a b***h getting VB6 to install fully under Win7.
I never much trusted Microsoft; over the many years, I’ve spent too much time cleaning up after them. BUT–and it’s a big but–I was always of the opinion that when incompetence suffices as a explanation, invoking evil is unnecessary.
Now, however, MS has openly admitted that it is unethical. I shall never trust another Microsoft _anything_, ever again. Period. End of topic.
You list the “terms used to describe this maneuver.” I can swear to you that the terms I used yesterday evening were _none_ of those.
If usenet still existed, there’d be an alt.microsoft.die.die.die group by now.

Or Dell should have done something… This is why I build my own stuff… Well Laptops…You just can’t build that yourself.
