   I actually gave up on the hassle of trying to keep GWX off of Windows 7 and just installed Win 10.

     Not sure why you “gave in” – using the GWX Control Panel works very easy and you never again see the offer for Windows 10 unless you go in and change it yourself. The one from Steve Gibson at GRC is too limited (IMHO) compared to GWX Control Panel
