New Phones On The Way

My wifes 4 year old iPhone 4S is getting wonky, charge doesn’t hold long, 3G is becoming cumbersome, and buttons now require a lot of force to use. Also, I refuse to put iOS 9 on it as the consensus seems to be it is a disaster on the 4S.
My 3+ year old Droid Razr Maxx HD has already seen a battery replacement (even though battery is “non-replaceable”) and that battery isn’t what it use to be. The micro-USB/charging port is almost non-functional. The last OS for this device is Android 4.4.2 (the newest released version is 6.0.1 I think). At this point I consider that a security risk.
So, the last week or so I have been phone shopping online. I almost got 2 Motorola X Pure’s since you can find the 16GB version for $300. For me that would mean $600 for 2. Then I found out that the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge can be had for buy one get one. I decided on the S7 (The S7 Edge is too big for us). That puts the price a $672 for 2 phones. The fine print stated that you needed to have a “new line”. So I log in to Verizon and fire up a chat Window. Below is part of the text of that chat:

*VZW LADY* : Thank you so much for verifying the account. I show that you have been with Verizon since 2003. I would just like to take a moment to say thank you for being a loyal customer and for being the best part of Verizon.

*VZW LADY* : From looking over your account I do show that you would be eligible for the buy one get one free S7 promotion.

*VZW LADY* : Let me explain how it works.

*VZW LADY* : First you get the first S7 as an upgrade one the device payment, then you would get the second phone as a new line on the device payment.

*VZW LADY* : Once you finish that process I will give you a link to where you can go and enter a promo code that I will give you and the confirmation information. Once you finish that process we will mail you out a Visa prepaid card with the retail value of the phone amount on it.

*VZW LADY* : Therefore, you would be getting reimbursed.

You : OK. I have 2 existing lines that I want to upgrade but I do not need a new line.

*VZW LADY* : Not a problem, you could do it as an upgrade as well and you would call customer care and I will provide you with the link and promo code afterwards.
