I mentioned here that I bought a new hard drive: WD Black 5TB Hard Drive On Sale.
The drive arrived yesterday. I didn’t pay for any extra shipping so kudos to Newegg on the 3 day turnaround.
The drive is going to replace a 2TB Seagate drive that I have to keep deleting stuff off of to keep from getting full. But first…
Benchmarks!
Just a couple and just for fun.
The drives: Seagate ST2000DM001 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s vs. WD Black WD5001FZWX 5TB 128MB CacheSATA 6Gb/s
First up is CrystalDiskMark. I ran the tests on Windows 7 and Win10. The Windows 7 install is as I run it with all the programs installed. On this machine Win10 is a default install with no programs installed, power at Hi Perf, O&O ShutUp10 set to recommended settings, and default Win10 drivers.
One run only. Like I said it is just for fun.
As you can see the new drive spanked the old one.
Next up I ran Passmark disk benchmark. Windows 7 only.
Again the new drive outperformed the old.
I could just copy/paste the stuff from the old drive to the new, or I could run SyncToy. But I decided to boot from my utility flash drive and use Acronis True Image to clone the drive. This allowed me to not have to play games with the drive letter/label. Just clone the drive and then unplug the old drive.
