I know most of you don’t read the Linux stuff I put up but it interests me so I’m going to start posting more Linux related news.

Cracks In The Linux Foundation?
Many in the Linux community are ticked off that the Linux Foundation has turned its back on the average user. They did this by allowing only those people with deep pockets to elect board members. While I find the news disheartening I do not find it surprising. Companies are involved in the Linux movement because they see a way to profit off of it. Altruism isn’t a factor. Why do you think so many distros got everyone to basically beta-test a server file system? (I’m talking BTRFS)

Please do post Linux stuff as I find it interesting. Been following Linux since Slackware 3.6 when it was included on a magazine disc.

I would like to see more Linux postings as well. Really getting frustrated with Microsoft, so the more I can learn, the better. I am thinking about doing a duel boot.

what they said. I am running ubuntu and linux mint using vmware on my main win7 machine since your post about not duel booting. I chose these distros as they are most common and I figured a good place to get started. I will always run windows for gaming and to stay up to date as the tech support for my family, but at this point I think most of my pcs will be running linux going forward. so, keep up the good linux updates as well

come to think of it, since you posted about tails, I would not mind reading about how you approach security online…you have posted a lot about privacy, and rightfully so since all the win10 fuss, but what are your thoughts around security in terms of online banking and email and such….thanks

I like to write about what I feel I am qualified to write about. I’m not a security expert so I feel a little awkward about offering too much advice in this area. And, while I don’t consider myself a member of the tinfoil hat brigade I am…cautious about some things. I use only use Tails for public wifi or things like a hotels wifi. I don’t do online banking. I think you have to be 8 different kinds of stupid to put your house or car on a network.
JD says
Makes sense, and I can appreciate that, Thank You. Quick question, and please forgive my ignorance, what do you mean by “put your house on a network?”
Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound) says
I mean like a “smart home”. Anything networked can be hacked. Don’t have cameras in a house you don’t want others to see the output. Don’t have your electrical / heating & cooling system accessible online if you don’t want to come home to to a house that is 95 degrees inside or got so cold that your pipes burst because some bored kid 1/2 way around the world got into your system. I could go on…

Yes, count me in for Linux. Your OpenSuse articles have been really helpful already. Bring it on!
