I am back to using openSUSE 13.2 and KDE4. I’m just not happy with the newest openSUSE and KDE.
1 – openSUSE Leap 42.1 takes a long, long time to shutdown / restart (if it will). I’ve tried both physical machines as well as virtual.
2 – With Plasma 5, KDE has also tried to introduce a more touch friendly environment. Not interested.
Remember when KDE stood for K DESKTOP Environment? At any rate, it seems half done.
I’ll stick with openSUSE 13.2 as it is supported until the ” first quarter of 2017.” I’ll try the next version of openSUSE when it comes out but in the meantime I will be checking out other Linux distros and desktops.

Outside of running a Centos 5 (methinks) server for gaming numerous years back I really haven’t used Linux. There is so many flavors of the OS to choose from. I did dual boot there for a while with Win XP and Centos but never could figure out how I wanted to use it day to day.
Being a gamer (old one now ) Linux really didn’t offer user level games that I knew of. However for a gaming server methinks at one time they were the preferred choice.
Sorry to here your flavor of Linux is slow, but I bet they figure it out.

I’m w/you on KDE. Tried Plasma on Fedora and it’s just flat unstable. I liked openSUSE 13.2; think I’ll go back too. Might run fluxbox & see how it does.
It seems like KDE never works quite right until version n.5.

I did the same as you, tried Tumbleweed though, and had to revert/reinstall 13.2. Mostly there were lots of software that wasn’t compatible.

Linux as a server works well. But Linux desktop fonts are too ugly for me.

You know you can easily change the desktop fonts via KDE Desktop Settings. There are hundreds of open source and proprietary fonts that probably are nicer than your particular distribution has.
I’m not sure that I would necessarily paint a family of operating systems, almost all of which come with multiple configuration choices. Check out Distrowatch and I am sure you can find a reasonable distribution which will let you pick your own font.
