I asked y’all a while back, “Why Are You Using Windows 10?” and I got some great responses. I thought I would let y’all know where I stand.
Please note the thoughts below are my own opinion. I’ve no intention of telling you what OS you should be using. I’ll try and keep this short…
– – –
I’m left with the reality that Windows 7 will be the last decent Windows OS for the desktop.
I wanted to love Win10, I really did. I’m pretty sure I’ve used every build since the first preview. I used it on 4 desktops, a laptop, and in virtual machines. In the end I left with one rather underwhelming conclusion…
Meh.
I understand that Win10 has a better kernel and memory management, but I can’t see it.
I know that it benchmarks better, but I can’t feel it.
I never, ever had a bluescreen on any Windows 7 machine that didn’t have hardware issues. I’ve had several with Win10.
Oh, and the privacy issues, let’s not forget the privacy issues.
Then we have the fact that MS has created their own Win10 torrent network.
I’d go off about the start menu but I now just consider installing Start10 mandatory and move on.
I can deal with the ribbon interface in Explorer but I don’t much care for it. Like so many things in Win10, heck, even Win10 itself, it just seems unnecessary. Maybe that is the problem, for many of us desktop users Win10, like Windows 8 before it, is just unnecessary.
Oh, I will use it on my main desktop. It’s what I do. But I increasingly use my openSUSE virtual machine for my internet activities. I run Windows 7 on my laptop and I’ll probably throw Win10 back on there in a dual-boot for testing purposes. But I’ve got 5 other desktops all running Windows 7. They will never see Win10.

I feel the same
I can’t feel it
and I thought I was the only one getting “critical_process_died” several times

Generally I find that VM’s work better with Windows as host. However openSUSE Leap gets released Nov. 4th so we will see.

I share your sense of “meh” + a dollop of “WTF!?!?!?!?. “Meh”, if you’re a desktop user (I’m assuming it’s a god-send to tablet users and all devices portable but we dinosaurs still using desktops, not so much).
But I am severely torqued that I have spent an inordinate amount of time on my WIN7 machines fighting the zombie that refuses to die (KB3035583 and its cousins KB3021917 & KB2952664). This is beyond offensive to me that devices that aren’t part of the WIN10 experiment (at least for me!) are constantly under attack. This is beyond big brother.
I will use WIN7 on those machines where I must for as long as I must and otherwise will use Linux Mint KDE with joy and pride (when was the last time you used Window$ and ‘joy & pride’ in the same sentence?!?!? )

Speaking of “zombies”, have tried three times at removing (KB3035583 and its cousins KB3021917 & KB2952664) from a friends Windows 7 and they always came back. Can’t figure it out ’cause it works for mine as well another friends with Windows 7 too.
