***UPDATED 0900hrs 02OCT2015 (See below)
There are reports all over the web about the KB3093266 update failing. I have this issue too. Numerous “fixes” have been posted and not a single one of them works for everyone. Some folks are manually downloading this update from non-official sources. I advise against it. Relax folks, it ain’t that important. Microsoft will fix it.
***UPDATE
This morning after this update failed again I decided to try sfc /scannow. I know, I know, we all hate that suggestion.
Well,
it worked! (I HATE that it worked). PLEASE let me know if this did or did not work for you.
Open an Admin command prompt (find option by pressing Windows + X keys) > type sfc /scannow and let it run, reboot when finished > manually run Windows Update > success
(note – CBS.log was FULL of errors.)

Hello, I knew where to come to find some info regarding issues with this update – in my case after KB3093266 is installed and system reboot, it says my system is not activated.. It was activated more than month ago (upgraded from Windows 7 first and clean install later) and System Restore before KB3093266 make activation issue to disappear.
sfc /scannow doesn’t help, do You have any suggestions?
Sorry for my english, I want to thank You about this great site by the way and I wish You keep it going =)

All I can suggest is to call Microsoft’s activation number. Sorry

Didn’t work for me. Ran sfc /scannow, it found errors and fixed. Update still cannot be installed. Error 0x80004005. Funny enough the day it dropped it installed fine but broke some 3rd party software so I used a restore point, and no it won’t reinstall.

Thanks for the feedback. Have you tried any other fixes?

It worked today, thanks I used the Software Distribution fold file deletion trick again, seemed to work or at least today’s update might have fixed it.

I had 3 different computers that all got the error that KB3093266 failed to install. On all the computers, it installed ok after I ran the sfc /scannow. On 2 of the computers, it finished and said it couldn’t fix all errors, however, immediately afterwards I was able to run the KB093266 update successfully.
Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound) says
Thanks for letting me know!
