Every sane person worries about privacy issues online. IMHO, Win10 causes legitimate privacy concerns. However, there is the “tinfoil hat brigade” that IMHO takes things way too far. I haven’t wanted to jump the gun on addressing these issues. This sites first rule of tweaking has always been “Primum non nocere” (first, do no harm).
Effects
We still do not know all the effects of uninstalling and disabling all the things so many sites and forums suggest. These posts may suggest the use of programs and scripts. Now when I speak of effects I mean:
– Does it cause error log entries?
– Does it cause startup delays?
– Does it break or limit the use of other programs and features? If so what?
– Will it prevent updates?
In my limited testing I’ve already seen some of these happen. Don’t believe me? Backup your computer, measure your boot time, and check your error logs. Now run one of these programs or scripts. Look at your boot time and error logs again.
For Now
I am working on addressing some of the privacy issues for Tweaking Windows 10. It’s a slow process.
I will say this, if you are dead set on erasing / eradicating / removing all of Win10’s privacy issues then you shouldn’t be using it. Windows 7 will be supported until at least 14 January, 2020. If you’re really serious you should be using Linux (advanced: Google > Tails Linux).
