Sorry for the lack of posts. I was on vacation.
Back with more Win10 stuff this week.
Pics and vacay details if you care..
I basically grew up in Michigan and hadn’t been there, well, in a long, long time.
I also have the misfortune (this year) of being Tigers fan.
– So we left home, stopped of at Cedar Point (coasters baby!),
– went to see Def Leppard (and Tesla) at Pine Knob (I’m not calling it DTE whatever),
– saw David Price pitch a good game and the Tigers get 1 fracking hit,
– saw the Tigers and especially my home boy Verlander embarrass themselves (temperature was hot as hell),
despite all that it was good to go to Comerica park. The last Tigers game I saw was in Tiger Stadium long before it closed.
-went to Saginaw (where I did grades 6-11) for a steak sandwich at Tony’s (I ate there like 3-5 times a week for several years and the one next to Provenzano’s Grocery on West Genesse too. They had better spaghetti.), (wow is Saginaw a hole, now I see why they call it Saginasty), was there for less than 2 hours and that was enough,
– went to Houghton Lake (where I did grades 3-5, plus summers and weekends in grades 6-11).
– All-in-all a good trip, I’m glad I went but can’t see myself going back.
I’m sad for Michigan. There was a time when it was a great place. The auto industry went to hell in the early 80’s, my family was forced to leave in the mid 80’s. Most of what I knew is gone. The school I went to no longer exists (St. Stephen), the place my dad worked is gone (Saginaw Steering Gear). Neighborhoods in severe decline, buildings boarded up, business shut down. If you used to live in Saginaw, someone made a cool little map.
Pics below…
Saginaw
My old house:
I put the sticker in that window sometime between 1980 and 1983…
St. Stephens old football field
St. Stephens High School (closed) (this building was actually grades 6-12)
Tony’s steak sandwich and onion rings. Still good but not quite as good or the same as it was.
Houghton Lake
Skateland (closed), good time here!
Biggest inland lake in Michigan. Growing up and/or vacationing here meant fishing (year round), water skiing, snow skiing, snowmobiling, hunting…
Michiganders call this “up north”.
My old house (on the left) they added a porch?!
Hub Market sponsored my baseball team, closed now.
Detroit Tigers
Labatt’s… back in the day this would have been a Stroh’s.
Def Lep and Tesla (Styx played too but a never liked them)
