If you are running Windows 8.1 RTM on an SSD I need your help.
Notes on the issue:
1 – WEI is gone in Windows 8.1 RTM. See: Windows 8.1 And WEI?
2 – As I asked earlier, what happens when Windows 8.1 doesn’t detect your SSD?
My issue:
1 – SSD was detected as such by the system. I know this because I went to defrag and the drive shows as an SSD.
2 – Next I go to (regedit) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters and see the following:
“EnableSuperfetch”=dword:00000003
“EnablePrefetcher”=dword:00000003
Under Windows 8 with a correctly identified SSD the EnableSuperfetch value should not be there.
(Contrary to some folks advice the EnablePrefetcher value should be there.)
3 – I run winsat diskformal (WEI assessment on just the disk) and reboot. No change.
4 – I run winsat formal (full WEI assessment) reboot and the EnableSuperfetch value is gone.
*note – winsat is run from an elevated command prompt.
Your Help
Can you please do the steps in the My Issue section and report your results.
Thanks!
If the above results hold then Microsoft has screwed up by removing WEI assessment.
