CCleaner has finally released the slim build of version 3.06. I say “finally” because the standard build was released on April 26th.
I only post about new version releases when the slim build is released. So, I thought I would explain myself.
The “standard” build contains a screen that asks if you want to install Google Chrome and make it your default browser. Now it isn’t that I have a problem with. It is the fact that these 2 options are selected by default. Meaning if you don’t pay attention then you’re gonna get Chrome as your default browser. I’m simply trying to look out for those who don’t pay attention.
I understand and support the fact the the software maker is simply trying to make a buck. The software is free after all.
I also understand that you can simply uncheck these options. Heck, part of me wants to say if you don’t pay attention then it’s your own fault.
Part of me also finds the fact that these options are selected by default is a little on the sneaky side of things.
My unsolicited solution? Something like:
– Include Google Chrome
– Do not include Google Chrome
– Make Google Chrome my default browser
– Do not make Google Chrome my default browser
Have them all unchecked by default and require the user to make a choice before they continue.
What do you think?
