I finally got a smart phone.
I finally got a smart phone, the Droid X. My account agreement (Verizon) was about to expire and I was eligible for a free/discounted phone. After weeks of research my choices came down to these 3: iPhone, Droid 2, Droid X.
The iPhone – I could have gotten one of these for free through an acquaintance that is a developer. I’ve been able to play with these a lot because at least 25% of my friends have one. It’s major downsides for me were:
1 – My current account is with Verizon and I have had nothing but a good experience with them and their network.
2 – I just can’t type on those things. I don’t have fat fingers yet I am constantly hitting the neighboring letter.
3 – No flash.
4 – Safari.
5 – iTunes.
The Droid 2 – Nothing bad to say about it. The pullout keyboard is a plus. Cost would have been $99 after rebate.
The Droid X – Fantastic phone with a huge screen (4.3 inches). Something about the onscreen keyboard is better than that of the iPhone, I am actually able to type on it. I immediately updated the phone to Android 2.2 (Froyo) and then rooted it ( see here and here ). Cost was $99 after rebate.
So far I’m loving this thing!
