Trios II Multi Drive Selector - Page 2

A Closer look at the parts

The Trios PCI card. Nice color!

Control Panel

Cables are labeled ATA66 but meet spec for ATA133 (40 pin, 80 wire)

Installation

You'll want to plan your installation out ahead of time. How do you want your drives configured? Do you want a slave drive for 1 OS or all of them? There are too many possible scenarios to list here. but here is a basic one:

Your supposed to install the PCI card and route the wire to the control panel to a desired location. The PCI card is just mounted in the slot, it doesn't interact with it. The original Trios installed in a drive bay. Romtec elected to change this, probably due to some reviews of that product whining about it "taking up a drive bay". Well, I want it in a drive bay and I don't want it in a PCI slot. So...It's mod time

How To Void Your Warranty 101

The first thing I did was find a spot for the PCI card. There were 2 motherboard mounting holes that lined up perfect with the holes for attaching the PCI bracket to the card once the bracket was removed. You can see the holes weren't perfectly horizontal but heck, it worked.

Now to put the control panel in a drive bay. I was about to take a Dremel to a drive bay cover when I remembered I had a 5 1/4 inch bay kit for a floppy drive. Here is the result.

Cables in place. I really hate flat cables. In the Army we called this kind of thing a Charlie Foxtrot!
