A Look At Mozilla For Windows Users By Eric Vaughan April 12, 2004
This article is intended to introduce Mozilla software to those who are unfamiliar with it. Many non-Geeks (and some Geeks) are either afraid to try programs such as these or are so used to what they have that they don't see much point in switching. It is my hope that by the end of this article I may have changed a few minds, or, at least get a few people to give these programs a shot. We'll skip all the "about Mozilla" stuff and get straight into the software. The applications we'll be looking at is the Windows versions of Mozilla 1.7 beta, Firefox 0.8, and Thunderbird 0.5.
Why Mozilla? You've heard the rants from the "Bill Gates is Satan" crowd. This or that about MS, and this or that piece of MS software sux, is bloated, slow, inferior, etc., ad infinitum, ad nauseam. You'll not see that here... So why do I use Mozilla software? The first reason is I'm always looking for something better for my needs and something better for someone else's needs. Second, from a purely philosophical standpoint, it is better for the consumer to have competition in the marketplace. Competition makes for better, cheaper, ever improving products. Speaking of cheaper, all the stuff from Mozilla is FREE!
